Tiananmen Square

Dragon Claws

Detail from one of two dragon pillars outside the Tiananmen Square entrance to the Forbidden City.

A picture of one of the pillars, taken by Sidney D. Gamble and dating from 1917-1919, can be found in the Duke University Libraries here.

Two from Tiananmen Square

I took these two photographs during my first trip to Tiananmen Square (and to China) in March of 2006. I took them back-to-back, and about three minutes apart. Both were shot with my old D50 and the 300 mm which I still use.

Most of the sites that foreigners visit are also extremely popular tourist destinations for Chinese nationals. People from more rural areas usually come by bus or train to see the marvels of this capital city.
