These photographs are from a rehearsal that happened last Wednesday morning. It was supposed to be a dress rehearsal, but not all of the costumes were ready.
The photographs were shot exclusively with my D300 and 50 mm/1.4.
Friday’s rehearsal was a complete run-through with the second cast, brief notes, and then a run through with the first cast. Still shot with work lights (camera set at 3200 ISO).
The majority of the shots were taken with my newly purchased Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.4G, which is the fastest lens that I’ve ever used (my 85 mm is 1.8). Unfortunately, I was still getting used to it during much of the first run-through.
Pictures from yesterday’s rehearsal at the Beijing Dance Academy. Rehearsals have now moved onto the stage.
Pictures from today’s rehearsal at the Beijing Dance Academy for an upcoming performance of the Paul Taylor Dance Company classic, Company B. Leading the rehearsal (and doing the staging of the ballet) is Richard Chen See.
The dancers are first and second year students at the academy.
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve done dance photography, something for which I’ve had a longstanding passion.
btw, I took over 500 shots to get these five; something that I totally expected before shooting the rehearsal.
